January 10, 2029: The Clock Is Running

The 2024 NAGPRA final rule (43 CFR Part 10, effective January 12, 2024) requires every museum and federal agency to consult with lineal descendants, Indian Tribes, and Native Hawaiian Organizations, then update their inventories of human remains and associated funerary objects, within five years. That deadline is January 10, 2029.
